It’s about everything you see. It’s about everything you don’t see. It is everything you fear. It is every thing you love. It is everything.
James Goodheart laid sprawled out in the grass in his front yard. Butterflies fluttered around, and the birds sang. James tried not to think, he pushed his thought away. He would not believe, he just couldn’t. What he saw was not real. Not possible. But it was. And this was driving James insane.
In the distance the sound of children's laughter came. And James longed to be with them. But he was captive in his thoughts. Try as he might to escape, every thing came back, all the haunting memories and the disturbing dreams.
In the distance he heard a woman's voice and a mans.
“It’s just not normal. He’s been crying in his sleep about people attacking him. He’s been jumpy all week. I think someone tried to hurt him. But he won’t answer us when we ask him about it.” The woman said to the man in a low voice. It was his mom. She had tears in her eyes and the look of concern on her face.
“How do you mean crying in his dreams?” The man asked. The man was a police officer.
“I mean, he’s shouting a lot of bizarre things about stuff attacking him, it’s concerning us...”
James stopped trying to listen. He had no idea he had been talking in his sleep. He closed his eyes and tried to concentrated on the birds singing. But try as he might his head only filled with a ringing sound. He opened his eyes again and leapt up from the ground. Without glancing at his mom, he sprang off out of the yard as sprinted till he could go no farther. He found himself down an alley facing a red brick wall. A wooden bench was to the left of him, and a door and two gray trash cans were to his right. The air smelt of rotten fish and old trash.
He looked up at the wall. He placed his hands inside two gaps in the walls and pushed with his feet, he began to climb. Soon his was at the top. He looked out and saw the ocean in the distance. He looked down, he was about 5ft above the ground. He jumped down and his feet gave out beneath him. He fell to the ground and sat there for a minute listening. It was the sound he dreaded hearing. A low buzz and a beep all at once. It filled his ears, he put his hands to his ears and began to scream. Screaming with all his might. The sound became louder. He shut his eyes not daring to look in front of him. The sound soundly stopped as if it had been cut off. He sat on the ground shaking, he had his eyes still closed, he didn’t want to see it again.
“There you are!” A girls happy voice filled the air.
He opened his eyes, the moment he saw the girl they filled with relief. “Bree!” He said with excitement. He sprang from the ground and through his arms around her. She stood there with amusement then through her arms around him.
“What’s a matter? Why were you screaming?” She asked as he pulled away.
“I umm... Let’s get out of here first, I think it’s still out here.”
“It? What’s going on?” She asked confused.
“First let’s get out of here, then I’ll explain.” James answered. He was paranoid, lurching back and fourth to make sure nothing was going to get him.
“Your scaring me James, stop being so paranoid.” Bree pleased looking over her shoulder.
